Cinema Manager

The Cinema Manager is a full-time position, reporting to the Executive Director and working closely with the Artistic Director. The Cinema Manager is in charge of all aspects of the day-to-day supervision of our new cinema. The Cinema Manager will bring a passion for film and a community spirit to the job. They will lead cinema operations to ensure and meet customer needs. They will instigate efficient operations which are focused on fair people management and excellent operating procedure. Your most important duty will be to make sure that every customer comes away from the cinema with a big smile on their face.

Duties
The Cinema manager is responsible for performing the following duties:  

  • Ensure that the cinema comply with health and safety legislations; recruiting, training, managing and appraising staff.

  • Manage all aspects of cinema operations including Box Office, Kiosks, Concessions, Retail, Café, Lounges, Ushering and Projection. Provide coverage and assistance in the areas of concessions, box office, café and other guest service responsibilities as needed

  • Managing budgets.

  • Ensure effective, preventive maintenance programmes are carried out for all cinemas

  • Ensure that programmes schedules run on time. Manage and operate all video screens and boards with accurate communications 

  • Monitor through chief projectionist excellent presentation and filming screening standards.

  • Supervise shipping and receiving of films and DCP’s, 

  • Liaise with marketing staff in the preparation of advertising and marketing plans and ensure full support from operations. 

  • Managing daily cash intake and ticket revenue, keeping financial and statistical data and reporting this data to distributors and stake holders.

  • Making sure that excellent customer service is provided; dealing with customer inquiries and complaints.

  • Managing screening room, cinema rentals and private hire

  • Working together with the services to ensure that housekeeping and security standards are obeyed. Overseeing cleaning and maintenance of cinema.

  • Recruiting, training and managing staff, setting shift rotas.

  • Motivating all staff to do their best in performing their duties; evaluating the performance of the cinema staff; and ensuring that operating and accounting procedures and standards are obeyed. Ensures staffing levels and management coverage is appropriate to meet the needs of the business and maximize the guest experience. 

  • Receive reports on all relevant events for the information of the Senior Management.

  • Support special screenings, premieres, fundraising and other events on and off site. Ensure and facilitate the execution of private events.

  • Re-stocking and monitoring of concessions and café

  • Ability to safely lift up to 50 lbs.

Requirements

  • a High School diploma or equivalent

  • Experience of leading and managing a team

  • Technical knowledge of projection and audio systems

  • Excellent business and IT skills with the ability to learn and train others in the use of new technologies. Ability to use computers with both off the shelf and custom written software. 

  • Effective oral and written communication skills

Projectionist

The Sag Harbor Cinema Arts Centre is a new 501c3 not-for-profit cinema opening in November 2019. In 2016 the cinema was destroyed by fire. The community has miraculously raised the funds to re-build and re-invent the historic cinema. There will be 3 screens, a café, education, VR and entertainment space in the heart of Sag Harbor, NY. We are passionate about film and are united by our love of cinema and our belief in its power to bring people together, to educate and to change lives.

Technical Director/Projectionist

Technical Responsibilities:

  • Operates, maintains and safeguards the technical assets of the theater, including supervising the use of projectors, lighting, sound and digital signage.

  • Deliver a comfortable, distraction-free, and picture-perfect entertainment experience 

  • Ensure picture-perfect presentations through auditorium and booth evaluations

  • Day-to-day operations of the projection booth, including all required paperwork

  • Determines the necessary technical supports, such as screen content, lighting, sound, staging, and special needs necessary for events and performances presented at the facility in advance of event dates.

  • Provide technical support for special events, rentals, and programs (e.g., coordinating microphone systems, DVD or Blu-ray playback, PowerPoint presentation displays, etc.).

  • Existing knowledge or willingness to train to operate changeover 35mm projection system.

  • Performing (or scheduling) daily theater checks, including show-by-show presentation checks by      employees. Identify picture and sound problems and correct accordingly 

  • Program and format weekly film content, including trailer and pre-feature programming and build digital cinema playback packages via TMS (theatre management software)

  • Solve technical problems quickly and efficiently 

  • Carry out any necessary booth administration, including the maintenance of film records. 

  • Running daily reports 

  • Tracking Movie DCP shipments and returns 

 

Experience & Qualifications:

  • Previous experience is preferred or a minimum of 6 months experience in a theater or technology background.

  • Show an awareness of presentation showmanship and an understanding of film and digital cinema equipment and terminology.

  • Ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced work environment.

  • Ability to communicate clearly and professionally with fellow team members and management.

  • Ability to work a variable schedule, including weekends, and shifts from morning through late night.

  • Position will require frequent standing, bending/kneeling, lifting and carrying up to 50 lbs.

Theater Assistant Manager

Assistant Manager:

The Assistant Manager plays a significant role in theater operations. The Assistant Manager leads by example and delivers superior guest service in a fast-paced, clean and safe environment. The Assistant Manager supervises and motivates hourly theater associates and follows operating policies and procedures to ensure all company objectives are met and to achieve financial targets. This position reports to the General Manager.

 

Essential Functions/Job Duties of THEATER ASSISTANT MANAGER:

  • Ability to work and problem solve independently.

  • Consistently create a welcoming environment for guests by greeting, anticipating needs and exceeding expectations and implementing creative solutions to provide exceptional service.

  • Assist GM with training and associate development.

  • Supervise, motivate, reward and coach theater associates to sustain exceptional levels of performance and appropriately counsel associates when they are not meeting expectations.

  • Understand and demonstrate desired behaviors for all staff duties including driving sales, loyalty registration, cash management, inventory and follow-up with guests.

  • Maintain facilities that are clean, safe and in good repair.

  • Follow required procedures in the event of a guest or associate incident.

  • Identify opportunities to increase brand awareness and drive traffic into the theater through a variety of marketing efforts, social media and community involvement.

  • Proficient in cash handling skills.

  • Proficient in Mac-based Word, Excel. Develop a basic understanding of POS Systems.

  • Operate projection equipment including projectors, servers, sound equipment. Perform basic technical troubleshooting upon completion of training.

  • Work with the General Manager to assemble weekly staff schedule, ordering concessions and other materials for operations.

  • Coordinates programming schedule with the General Manager, technical staff and distributors to ensure all elements of programming are scheduled for the week.

  • Responsible for submitting weekly Box Office Reports to distributors.

  • Preserve confidentiality of theater information.

  • Programs new films each week into servers, test audio in each theater. Sets weekly schedule in servers.

  • Loads new pre-shows, when available, into computer system and tests in each theater.

  • Re-formats Box Office Reports weekly and sends to distributors.

  • Keep inventory of supplies up to date

  • Organize and maintain receipts, update manuals for staff.

  • Trouble shoot technical malfunctions when necessary.

  • Perform other such duties as may be assigned by the General Manager.

  • Educational Requirements

  • High School diploma or equivalent

  • College coursework in Business Management and Marketing preferred.

 

Qualifications:

  • Minimum 20 years of age.

  • Strong written and verbal communications skills.

  • Supervisory experience in a movie theater, retail or hospitality environment.

  • Flexible work schedule that includes Friday, Saturday and Sunday late evenings, weekends and holidays as dictated by business needs.

Administrative Assistant

Administrative Assistant:

We are looking for a recent graduate, hard-working multi-tasker who loves cinema.  Candidates should be able to assist management by handling office tasks, communications, coordinating events and education projects, providing polite and professional assistance via phone, mail, and e-mail, and generally being a helpful and positive presence in the workplace.  You will be supporting our programming and will be responsible for shipping and tracking films, sending out press releases and updating schedules. 

 

The Administrative Assistant will report to the Executive Director and will perform tasks for the Artistic Director and Cinema Manager as well.

 

Administrative Assistant Responsibilities:

  • Creative communications – website, social media , newsletter 

  • Meeting coordination-Taking minutes at staff meetings and board meetings

  • Provide real-time scheduling support.

  • Track shipping of films

  • Handling office tasks, such as filing, book-keeping, generating reports and presentations, setting up meetings, distributing information and reordering supplies.

  • Greet and assist visitors and provide friendly customer service

  • Keep a calendar of cinema and community events

  • Maintain polite and professional communication via phone, e-mail, and mail.

  • Manage guest lists, special screenings, event invitations

 

Administrative Assistant Requirements:

Theater Staff

Theatre Staff:

Sag Harbor Cinema is looking for individuals who thrive in a fast-paced, customer service-oriented work environment. We pride ourselves on maintaining a fun, inviting atmosphere for our customers and workers alike.

 

Responsibilities Include:

  • Selling movie tickets and concession items in a fast-paced environment

  • Preparation of hot foods such as popcorn 

  • Properly handling cash, accepting credit/debit card payments, and making change

  • Maintaining cleanliness of movie theaters, concession areas, and lobbies

  • Stocking and restocking concession items when necessary

  • Must be at least 18 years of age

  • Must be able to work opening, weekend, and some holiday shifts

  • Cashier experience preferred
