MILTON GLASER: TO INFORM AND DELIGHT
Directed by Wendy Keys (USA 2008; 73 mins. in English)
The world lost the icon behind icons this week, and we bid adieu to the world-renowned graphic designer Milton Glaser (1929-2020). Most famous for co-founding New York Magazine and creating the ubiquitous and forever beloved “I ♥ NY” sign, Glaser was also a businessman, teacher, and humanitarian.
Wendy Keys’ 2008 documentary (her first film) profiles the artist through the years with beautiful, personal interviews from both him and those who were lucky enough to be close to his genius. The film takes us through his studies at New York High School of Music and Art and at Cooper Union, a seminal stay in Italy, his marriage, and his various partnerships - such as founding Push Pin Studios, designing Grand Union supermarkets, and working with The Nation. Glaser was charming in manner, memorable in his observations, and generous of spirit.
Join in the conversation with director Wendy Keys and Milton Glaser’s partner and graphic designer Walter Bernard on Tuesday, July 7 @ 6pm.
